La Salle Network

The Educational Organisation La Salle is a network of schools named after the founder of the first Christian schools in Europe, Jean-Baptiste de La Salle, a priest and pioneering educator who devoted his life to teachers, children, and education.

The first schools were founded in 17th-century France, and today around 1,000 institutions continue to apply De La Salle’s pedagogical principles. Together, they form the largest educational organisation in the world, encompassing all levels of education — from nurseries and kindergartens to primary and secondary schools, general and technological high schools, and even universities.

These institutions operate through the collaboration of 90,000 lay teachers and 4,500 Frères.

In response to the needs of modern times, the followers of De La Salle’s vision continue, with faith and dedication, to provide educational and pedagogical services in 80 countries worldwide to more than one million children, adolescents, and young people — regardless of their religious beliefs, cultural background, or language.

The headquarters of the central administration of the Order of the Sisters of the Christian Schools and the Lasallian Schools is located in Rome (www.lasalle.org). The 1,000 schools, scattered across all five continents, are divided into five major regions:

Europe and Mediterranean countries → RELEM

Asia, Australia and Pacific countries → PARC

North American countries (USA, Canada) → RELAN

Latin American countries → RELAL

African countries → RELAF

Lasallian schools have been operating in Greece since the mid-19th century. They belong to the RELEM region and are administratively attached to France (www.lasallefrance.fr), which includes 130 educational centres.

In Greece, there are currently four schools that are equal members of the global La Salle organisation:
