THE URSULINES AROUND THE WORLD
THE URSULINES IN GREECE

“Be active, redouble your efforts, believe, hope, and pray to God with all your heart...”

Faithful to the words of their Foundress, the Ursuline Sisters continue to respond to the Lord’s call, serving others through education and charitable work.

Across five (5) continents and thirty (30) countries, 2,208 Sisters are guided by the Superior General and a Council of six Sisters of different nationalities, elected for six years, who coordinate the activities of all Ursuline communities worldwide.

Education, the formation of character, Christian upbringing, and the holistic development of the human person have always been the mission of the Ursulines — the first women’s teaching order in the world — whose journey began at the dawn of the 17th century, founded on the pedagogical principles set out in the Testament of Saint Angela.

An order with a long and radiant global presence, the Ursulines today maintain:

• 83 kindergartens

• 66 primary schools

• 101 junior and senior high schools

• 12 technical schools

• student residences on all five continents

• 4 universities (in China, Indonesia, Brazil, and the USA)

Ursuline schools around the world educate over 100,252 students, in 22 different languages, united under their emblem and motto: “SERVIAM” – “I WILL SERVE.”

The Ursuline Sisters, ever attentive to the needs of the times and the voices of the young, continue in the 21st century — with love and devotion — to help them know themselves better, develop their talents, and enter the society of tomorrow as young citizens of the world, equipped with all the skills needed for a happy and creative life.
